These are some pretty liberal limits, hours and shooting rules. I know I have seen Snow Geese, but I am not sure I have seen Blue or Ross' Geese are Oklahoma. Do any of you guys and gals go after these geese? Heck, you could scout turkeys and hunt geese at the same time!

CONSERVATION ORDER LIGHT GOOSE SEASON (COLGS)

SEASON DATES:

Light Geese (Snow, Blue & Ross’)

February 15 - March 30, 2010

BAG LIMITS:

** Light Geese - The daily bag limit is twenty.

POSSESSION LIMITS:
There is no possession limit for light geese (snow, blue & Ross’).

SHOOTING HOURS:

**One-half hour before official sunrise to official sunset.

** CONSERVATION ORDER LIGHT GOOSE SEASON (COLGS)

During the COLGS, special means of take will be allowed, including: electronic calls, unplugged shotguns, one-half hour after sunset shooting hours and no daily bag or possession limits. The Conservation Order and special means of take provisions are designed to increase harvest and allow hunters to help reduce the population of mid-continent light geese (snow, blue & Ross’). All other waterfowl regulations will apply; including use of federally approved nontoxic shot. All participants will be required to have in their possession while hunting, all necessary licenses, waterfowl stamps and a Harvest Information Program permit (HIP). The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation is required by federal regulation to estimate the harvest of light geese during the COLGS. Therefore, to participate in the COLGS hunters should provide the ODWC with their name, full mailing address and telephone number so that they may be contacted after the season with a harvest survey.

I have had friends that put the sneak on them with a cow decoy or just getting behind the weeds and then blazed away. Some of the guys carry 2 guns loaded to the max each. They get 50-90 on one volley of shot when the birds take to the air and then chase cripples for an hour trying to finish them all off. My brother went once and has no desire to ever go again. He didn't like eating them and calls them the carp of the sky. After the shooting, the cleaning took forever.

I've seen a few snows in Grant county. Most of them are mixed with lesser canadians in the middle of square mile wheat fields, that would take a 155MM howitzer to reach them. Just not in their flyways I guess.

I might be able to get you one of those...Ft. Sill is the home of the Field Artillery!

I've been there many times. I was active duty for 6 years in the army, and 10 yrs in the Army Reserve as a Drill Instructor. We did most of our summer camps at Ft Sill. My worst memory of that place was riding my Gold Wing down the back roads one night thinking all firing was done, and there must have been one weapons group still doing night firing with the 155. I know they saw me coming down the road and the muzzle blast almost took me off the bike. Pissed me off so much, I started to go up the side road to the emplacment, and do a little a$$ whoopin, but realized it might not be the best thing to do. Odds weren't in my favor.

Got over it later, and just call it another story:D

But, If you could get me one of those and some ammo?????

Snow goose hunts stick mainly to the east side of Oklahoma from what I've seen.

I'll be trying my luck if the birds stop where I hunt, but I haven't heard anything on them heading back from Texas yet.

BTW, the bag limit for COLGS isn't 20 per day, there is no limit. Snow geese are the most aggressive feeders and are known for destroying southern crops. COLGS is just a chance to blast away at all the sky carp you can find.

Last weekend, I was watching Lock And Load With R. Lee Ermey on the the History Channel (saw about three episodes) and they were at Ft. Sill for one weapon. Some sort of tank killer, I think, or maybe it was the 155mm. Seems like the weapon and target were a couple MILES apart.
