This kind of crap ticks me off about the NRA. They can't and wont help get us everything we want/need.
WHY?
Because then maybe we the people may not need them so much. They make most their money off scare tactics.

Acording to "Roll Call"
The new standard lowers the membership requirement for outside groups from 1 million members to 500,000. Those groups would still need to have members in 50 states, have existed for 10 years and can accept no more than 15 percent of their funding from corporate or union sources. The broader bill, called the DISCLOSE Act, comes in response to the controversial Supreme Court decision in January that struck down limits on corporate and union spending in elections. The bill would force groups participating in elections to name their top donors, among other changes.

It was not immediately clear which groups would qualify under the new carve-out, though the Sierra Club, with 750,000 members, appears likely to meet the standard. A House Democratic aide said the change was not made with any particular groups in mind. “The number was reduced recognizing that there are groups out there that have a long-standing history of doing grass-roots work. We originally thought some of these groups would be covered, but they weren’t,” the aide said. “This keeps all of the teeth of the bill, but it also sets a uniform standard for groups to meet.”

AARP, ACLU, and others would be covered under this act also.

The NRA did not request this carve out and is still opposed to any restriction on free speech.

From reading the bill it seems to be very anti union,, and was written by Democrats?????? What the???

Another bad bill from this congress!

The GOA is using typical NRA spin. Make the issue a matter of life or death to democracy.

Its nothing of the sort. This bill flushes out the dummy grassroot groups commonly referred to as astroturf. The trend lately has been for big money interests to cammy up their lobbying efforts as driven by the masses.

This bill will expose the top donors and show their percent of donation compared to total donations. It isnt going to 'expose' simple membership, but rather total membership to expose the groups that are simple lobbying fronts.

Seen in that light its easy to see why some are upset, they will lose their new lobbying jobs masked as grassroot consultants.

But for regular joes its a good bill, as long as you wish some transparency on just what the percent of astroturf is on the field.
