So I'm looking into a custom build 10/22 folding stock. I love the factory folder on my Mini 14. I like wood stocks, I think folders are cool...

I'm trying to locate really good detailed pictures of the Butler Creek folding stock. My plan is to evaluate how to remove the folder from the Butler Creek and rework the Ruger factory stock to add a pistol grip (AK Style) as well as the Butler Creek folder.

Somewhere I saw this exact setup completed. Looking at the factory stock, I believe there is enough wood to make it all work, however I need to find very detailed pics of the Butler Creek folder, or find one, so I can see how to remove it from the plastic stock.

I believe this would make one sweet looking plinker with some steel lip mag's in toe.

So anyone think this is impossible? Good idea? Worth the effort?

I'll look at the Ace folder... but will it block the ejector port on a 10/22? The pistol trip tooling will be the most work I think..

Most of the Ace applications I've seen have the stock fold to the left, so it wouldn't interfere. I think you're right about the second part. Good luck! :)

IIRC, all you have to do is turn the block over to fold the opposite way, but I could be wrong. It would be best to check first. These are patterned after the FAL Para folders, widely regarded as one of the sturdiest/best designs available.

Notice this AR pattern folder folds to the left: http://riflestocks.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=75_78&products_id=332

and one company even makes a pre-made collapsible folder: http://www.combatstocks.com/ATI_Ruger_10_22_Six_Position_Side_Folding_Collapsible_Stock.cfm

And Tapco makes one that just collapses (which the Ace would most likely fit) : http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=396866

I like your idea of adapting a wood stock, I'd just guess that it would work best with the marrying point between wood and metal components to be bedded somehow.
