Well, it finally happened,,,
I delivered the "kit" to my buddy yesterday evening.

I told him I had built a 10/22 and wanted to show it off,,,
When he opened the case he was puzzled,,,
Until he read the card.

It's the first time I've ever seen him "speechless",,,
I think he was getting a bit choked up,,,
So I didn't do anything but watch.

It was very gratifying for me.

He promised that he would take lots of pictures of the build process,,,
The Shaw barrel didn't just slip into the Ruger receiver,,,
So it's in the freezer right now shrinking down.

I don't regret the cash I spent on it one whit,,,
It was worth it just to see his face.

I just had to add a bit of oil to my barrel then it popped right in easily.

He sent me pics of last nights efforts to the build.

He told me that after having the barrel in the freezer for a day,,,
It slipped right in with no twisting or hammering,,,
But that it's definitely a tight fit.

He will mount and level the scope tonight after work,,,
Then it just waiting for the weekend to shoot it.

Temps are supposed to be in the 70's with sunshine,,,
I can't wait to take range pics.

Later my friends,,,

Aarond

P.S. It's kinda Plain Jane looking right now,,,
I'm fairly certain he'll replace the stock with something sexier.

Yesterday I had lunch with my buddy,,,
And I dropped off my torque-driver and scope leveling kit.

We have the plan to go shooting this coming Sunday morning,,,
I'll take range pics of the rifle and it's targets.

Well we did get to the range yesterday,,,
It was perfect low 70's weather with no wind.

I was shooting my CZ-457 Pro Varmint AT-One,,,
First time out with it's new scope.

My friend was of course shooting his new 10/22 build.

His first shots were on paper at 50 yards,,,
He had it dialed in with less than 1" groups within three mags of CCI-SV.

I on the other hand had a bit more problem with mine,,,
When I ordered the 4x16-44 Vortex Diamondback,,,
I also ordered a 25 MOA rail from DIP industries.

That was almost a mistake,,,
It took almost all of the "down" adjustment to get it on paper.

Once I accomplished that I had no problems getting it zeroed at 50 yards,,,
I wasn't shooting the groups the rifle is certainly capable of,,,
But since it the first serious outing since my surgery,,,
I don't think I did too badly.

I was averaging 1" groups at 50 yards,,,
But did manage to shoot one group that was "one ragged hole".

What the outing did was convince me that I have a "No Alibi Rifle",,,
Meaning the rifle is more precise than my accuracy with it,,,
When I miss the mark I literally have "No Alibi".

So now it's just practice, practice, practice,,,
No more fiddling with the rifle or it's accoutrements.

Just go to the range and try to get my technique refined,,,
I'm determined to get my accuracy level up to shooting silhouettes at 50, 100, 150, & 200 yards.

The only thing I might do is practice with the bi-pod, bags, and stationary rest,,,
Just to see which method of rest gives me the most comfortable results.

At this point the only accessory I'll buy for this rifle is,,,
Lots and lots of decent quality ammunition,,,
Then just practice my technique.

Too many variables right now,,,
I need to nail them down.

It was a good day shooting for both my friend and I,,,
He is very happy with his 10/22 build gift,,,
Now it's just shoot, shoot, shoot.
