Or can I just name it by make/model in the assets section of the trust paperwork?
Yes it should be listed in your schedule A.
by make/model or specifically by serial number?
I always put the make, model and serial number on the schedule A.
Make and model don't have much to do with your NFA item except as a secondary identifer.
All NFA items are identified by serial number and registered owners name.
Make and model are only used to confirm the particular item when more than 2 have the same serial number.
So, Yes its important to have the serial number listed in the trust assets.
