it could be done and yes it is cool, but there are numerous questions you have to ask.
1. can i get a patent on this
2. will other companies be willing to invest in the tech. (i am assuming you are not going to start making scopes)
3. sure people say it is cool, but will they really put there money where their mouth is
4. is the market large enough to offset the time, money and overall investment of this project
5. will the tech be reliable enough
6. what liability with you have, if someone has an AD and kills someone and says, but my "scope" said i should have been empty, it is their fault and i am suing them....

just a couple of things to consider...

As far as recoil counting, what if you bump the gun? How could you isolate the difference? Neat idea, but I don't think I'd use it. I think in a combat situation it could pose as an additional distraction. I was always trained not to count my rounds, just reload when necessary or top up when convenient.
