This could easily happen here in the USA. The Senate has already passed the "Kill Switch Bill", which essentially will allow OUR gov't to pull the plug on our internet, phone, TV services. This will leave us all in the dark while THEY manipulate us how they deem appropriate. We're not as free as many think.
