Completely unrelated, Anyone know what wattage laser is needed to pop balloons?
Definitely in the tens of watts to burn a hole 8 miles away. Most industrial lasers are in the 40 watt range AFAIK, they can cut through metal. However there is a distance of 8 miles involved here, assuming the laser is directly below.

If the package opens at like 2500ft or less over a crowded area?
We used to be concerned that radioactive material dirty bombs were the danger.
Who knows? But I doubt it. You’re talking only 50 lbs of dust that the wind will disperse over a 2500 ft height.
Maybe from 100’ with no wind, but how much systemic absorption there would be? Would need to determine amount of drug needed in order to calculate dosage.
Would prob need to research prior testing and then calculate amount of drug needed, which seems exceedingly tedious and not a good use of time spent.

we should shoot it with another million dollar missile, lol...Raytheon needs more money
Why a $1M missile?

Zoom past, the shock wave could do it. As they pass, hit afterburner and pull into vertical climb, roast it.

An Apache, 1 round from mini gun.

A Huey door gunner and 1 round .22LR? A Roman candle?
Hover above and drop lawn dart?

Drone? Which do require license /permit above a certain size.

Military surprise? Well before reaching 40k, should have been on multiple radar and satellites.

It doesn't require an ICBM to bring down a balloon.

C.W. "Mover" Lemoine covered why it had to be a missile after the F22 shot down the Chinese spy balloon last year.

The Apache can't fly high enough to get into gun range.

The Huey has about half the service ceiling of the Apache.

Heck, just hop up there with a Harrier or F-35, pull up along side it and ring the doorbell. :hot:

You probably need to read up about just little fentanyl and the nextgen of it being trafficked now actually. In fact everyone needs to learn about it as likelyhood of accidentally coming in contact with it is increasing daily
Not preaching at you, but as a trained Hazmat specialist I can tell you that it is more lethal at a finite smaller amount than most folks can even understand.

Why, in the name of all that's holy, would we want to spend millions of dollars to shoot down a hobbyist's balloon?
Because it presents a danger to aircraft in the area, we don't know what or who it belongs to and it's in our airspace. Besides, they throw millions of dollars away on a near daily basis in DC. It has no business flying over our country.

I understand the toxicity & usages of fentanyl pretty well. I’ve handled it & administered it to patients countless times in the critical care & outpatient setting since the 90’s.

Do you know how it would affect people on the ground if it was dispersed in the air from thousands of feet? I don’t & don’t think anyone else does either. My guess is prob not. Any further detail & speculation about a balloon fentanyl attack isn’t really interesting to me. Getting my clubs re-gripped has my interest these days.
Go with Winn grips, you won’t be sorry.
