When people ask me about an 'entry' 1911 I tell them to get a different type of .45 (Glock, SIG, HK, FNP...etc.) for under $600. Don't mess with 1911's until you can at least go $800.

Last weekend I was able to shot a RIA, a Springfield and a Kimber 1911.
That being said, I wouldnt touch a RIA. The Springfiled came in as a second favorite and the kimber was like driving a cadilac. For the money, Springfield get my vote. You can pick one up for $700 probably. If you wanted to spend over $1000, go for the Kimber Commando model. I also would not get a full size.
