Winter 2010-2011 my wife found a purse at target on memorial and penn. she was going to take it to customer service and I told her not to. It had a little over $500 cash, and iPhone all her credit cards. She argued with me for a few mins and I told her they would just steal the money. So we went though her iPhone and called a few different number in her phone and she came and picked it up and gave us $100 for keeping it safe. We tried not to let her give us the money but she was so thankful. I don't trust anyone at customer service when they look like there under 21yrs old. People make me sick some times.

Well played. The world needs more honest people such as yourself.

I have found several wallets in many different places. I usually get a hold of them though something in the wallet. Once I turned one into the police, because I couldnt get in touch with him. last 2 wallets had $400+ in them. both tried to give me a reward. I did not take it. If i wanted their money, I would have taken it out of the wallet.

One was an old man and he took it upon himself to write down my address and sent me $100 in a thank you card. I played cards on the $100 and won $1200. worked out well...

You did the right thing, most people now days would have taken anything worth money and left it....

EXACTLY. Camera angels in some wal-marts are like casinos. It makes you think twice about scratching sometimes.

When I did a cabling job at a few back in the 90's a lot of those bubbles were empty, just for show. May not be that way anymore.

My wife set down her little camera case at Disney World. She had everything in it, cash, debit card, glasses, etc. We were kind of freaking out, would have ruined the trip. Some old man that worked there walked up to me and put his arm around me and asked what was wrong. We told him and he walked us to the nearest little shop and went behind the counter, asked us to descibe it, and then produced it. We had a feeling that they must have seen the whole thing on camera having resolved the issue so quickly. There are good people out there.

OP you did the right thing!

Only thing I mightve done was look for a way to contact the owner themselves...otherwise you can do as you did or go to the local cop shop and drop it off!

Most of the Walmarts run a good lost & found as far as honesty goes.. but don't show much smarts in notifying the owners of found items. I am very forgetful since my on-the-job injury yrs ago and often leave my walking cane in the shopping cart next to my vehicle. I've gone back to Walmart and gotten it back from the lost & found. What pissed me off was that my name & phone # is on bold black & white labels on the cane.. and no one bothered to call me to tell me it had been turned in.

If you ever find a cell phone or a purse with a cell phone... check the address book, looking under ICE [In Case of Emergency], HOME, or Parents. 'ICE' is what LEO's & Ambulance crews usually check for first when someone is in a accident and is unconscious.
