The National FOP is a socialist political organization that focuses on an agenda that has little to do with actual law enforcement. It should be noted that the FOP did not represent Agent Terry, who was killed in the presence (if not by) unsecured F&F weapons. I cannot consider their position as anything but biased, based on their own separate agenda. What it boils down to for me is this: I doubt very much that Agent Terry would express confidence in AG Holder as the nations top LEO, were he still alive today and in possession of the facts as we know them. The FOP backing of AG holder holds no value, IMO.

I understand what you're saying, but the majority of the public won't be exposed to this insight and still believe that the FOP is street cops, and that is why the endorsement does hold value.

As a sign of gratitude, Holder and Obama will make sure that tax payers reward them with some of Obama's stash, and a nice exemption from Obamacare.

I'm a FOP member and I don't agree with the national level platform and I voiced this to some of my coworkers when the lodge was being stood up. Some of the benefits of belonging to the FOP are having criminal/civil lawsuit protection with an attorney of our choosing as opposed to the agency's one that will probably hang you out to dry, death insurance, the ability to have some protection when filing/addressing a grievance and having a voice in the legislature when it comes to pensions. There is no collective bargaining rights that come out of having this union in Oklahoma though. I am not a fan of unions but there were some benefits to joining this one.

I woudnt sweat it. Your local town's Chamber of Commerce does more damage to your rights daily than the FOP will in your life time.

Lobby groups posture all the time. If you don't understand this sad reality of US political life, you really need to get out more.

Off topic, but could you explain how my CoC is destroying my civil rights?

“The FOP is very proud of the strong and positive working relationship that we have had with Eric Holder, not just for the two years in which he has served as the nation’s ‘top cop,’ but through his long career of public service,” wrote Chuck Canterbury, the organization’s National President.

UGH.

He's not a cop, he's a prosecutor. He's a lawyer, not an LEO.

Disappointed at the least to hear this. I'd prefer they simply didn't openly take any position, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were receiving some pressure from the Administration to support him publicly.

I'm curious as to what some of our local officers here feel, although I'm not sure if they are "allowed" to really speak their minds publicly about FoP matters? I know many unions will come down on members who publicly decry their policy decisions, but I don't know about the FoP. I do find it a bit incongruous though.

Most of the rank & file officers I know wish the FOP would stick to issues effecting their membership and stay out of politics, particularly endorsements. Sadly, unions like the FOP only have clout when they involve themselves in politics, or so it seems. They're just like any other lobby group in that respect. Unfortunately, too often it looks like mission creep.

Emminent domain immediately comes to mind. The CoC is a one dimensional lobby group that doesn't necessarily push for what's best for the communities they serve. They're in business to serve businesses. Expecting them to do otherwise is expecting a scorpion to not sting it's prey.
