As far as I know it's a yellow/black speed limit sign you speak of. Could be wrong but my recollection is that yellow and black speed limit signs indicate a safe speed limit any vehicle traveling that section of road can safely navigate. Similar to the signs you see on exit ramps or on curvey roads. Yellow speed signs are an advisory speed limit and are not a regulatory speed limit. THe regulated limit through IXL is still 65MPH.

There are a lot of police on 48 South of Bristow. My detector has helped a bit but the LEO's like to keep their radar off and flip it on the last second at which point the detector won't do you any good unless there are cars a fair distance in front of you getting radared allow you to reduce your speed in time.

You still gotta go through Bowlegs to get to Maud.
Only if it is Maud Adams.

I fly through there twice a day. Literally takes about 4 seconds from one end of town to the other. I'd be I curious to know how it got its name.
I always thought it was a cattle brand.

WIKI

IXL (or I.X.L.) is an historical freedmen's town in Okfuskee County, Oklahoma, United States. While founded perhaps as early as 1900, it was only incorporated in 2001 and had an estimated population of 59 in 2007. The population was 59 at the time of the 2020 census.

The source of IXL's unusual name is disputed. A 2012 article on the town's website explained that the name derived from Indian Exchange Land, a reference to the town being on Mvskoke land. Other sources claim that the letters were taken from the names of three men. Some people think it’s an onomatopoeic boast suggesting "I excel."

This town should not be confused with Oklahoma towns in Kay County and Tillman County which also bears the "IXL" name. Around 1926, Julius Rosenwald Fund provided a grant in the amount of $1,100 for the community to build a school building for the IXL District 12. The school was segregated for grades one through eight.

I can verify this as I have spent many the night there. I even stayed at the HOOKER INN.

It is run by a nice guy from Croatia who lives in Guymon. We had long talks about Croatia and the region around it.

This motel is the place where I photographed that 360 degree sunrise.

Home of the Horney Toads. Could be from the lack of Hookers?
