For years they were given to retiring Fire Fighters. They are cool yard art as well. I made a few into working sprinklers years ago.
Hasn't anyone noticed you involving and shutting off the water supply when you find one of those? The fire department would get mighty confused if they had a fire at your property and needed water to extinguish a fire I'd think.
