Please give me some help. I want to buy a Winchester Model 12 in 12 guage. Assuming the barrel is in good shape, I will eventually want to buy a second barrel to shorten to 18-20" for whatever reason. On Model 12's, is the barrel a simple drop-in switch, or are there certain things to watch for or that have to be fitted? I want one, but just don't know that much about them. Thanks.

The barrel & extension assy are fitted to each gun.
If you could find another assy it can be fitted so they are interchangable.
The piece with the threads is adjustable with the right tools.
They also come in different graduations. So if the one thats on there won't work, A different one can be ordered.

Theres a lot of other guns just as reliable with interchangable barrels alot cheaper.

That's good info Ed. Thanks. I just always wanted a model 12, but didn't know a barrel swap was a big deal. However I had suspected it was a little more than others. My take: buy one the way you like it and modify something else. Thanks
