OKLAHOMA CITY U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder is scheduled to give a speech to a group of police cadets amid protests by conservative lawmakers and organizations who say the country's chief law enforcement official doesn't represent Oklahoma values.
Holder is scheduled to address the class of 42 police recruits during their swearing-in ceremony Thursday afternoon at First Church in downtown Oklahoma City. The 35 men and seven women were among 52 recruits who started the 30-week physical and academic training academy.
But several conservative lawmakers and organizations say Holder is the wrong person to speak to police cadets.
Republican Rep. Mike Turner of Oklahoma City says Holder has shown contempt for upholding the law and has refused to safeguard basic civil liberties.
Turner is among the lawmakers scheduled to protest.
