Hollow vs. solid guiderod?

Can someone explain to me why I would want to upgrade(?) from the standard guiderod in my XDm to a solid or one-piece guiderod?

guied rod swaps usually allow the user to swap recoil springs faster, if they are going from an uncaptured to captured rod. THe weight thing is usually only noticable if you go to a tungsten gr.
