That being said, I’m building a 10/22 too. I get the paralysis on picking parts. What are other requirements other that tack driver and <= $1200? Does the 1200 include optics? Do you want to suppress it? Are you going to just shoot from a bench or walk around with it?
I’m trying to pick a bolt for mine, already have a receiver, bought a shaw barrel, and a bx trigger.

I've got a built 22 that is a tac driver. It has a Green Mountain match barrel and will put 10 CCI Green Tag bullets under a penny at 50 yards. I don't remember who did the work on the barrel for me, but it is threaded to the receiver to eliminate slop. It's also threaded at the muzzle to accept my shush can.
Well, use case dictates barrels. If carrying it around, may want one that is much lighter.

He doesn't know I'm doing this for him,,,

Here's the back-story if you are interested.
We were co-workers at the university that I retired from,,,
We've been good friends for about 15 years now.
My friend has earned a gift in my eyes,,,
I was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer,,,
We caught it early so within 2 weeks of the diagnosis,,,
I went in for a surgery that had me laid up for several weeks after.
He has ferried me to and from many doctor's appointments,,,
Often using up his own sick leave to get off from work.
He's also my lifeline making sure I'm okay on a daily basis,,,
I text him in the morning and late in the evening,,,
If he doesn't get those texts he calls me.
The one time I forgot to text and didn't hear his call,,,
He was on my porch within an hour,,,
Making sure I wasn't dead.
Anyways I have always wanted to try my hand at building a custom rifle,,,
So I sold two Colts I had to raise the money for this project,,,
This just seemed like a perfect opportunity for me.
I scratch an itch to build a rifle,,,
My friend gets a tack-driver (I hope) made just for him.

I have a factory Ruger heavy barrel, spiral forged. Holler if you need help guidance or tips putting it together. FYI, I do not have a website, so I’m not sure how you tried to contact me using that method….
Kidd makes really nice stuff. Their Trigger kit is nicer than the BX trigger. I could only imagine what one of their full on triggers would be like.
Once you get this going, it'll take some ammo testing. Lots shoot decent, some shoot good, a few are phenomenal, and it'll show all through the same rifle. My favorite plinking ammo was CCI SV because it was accurate enough and cheap....but throw some Eley match ammo in and groups tighten up a bunch.
