He is doing it wrong. Sword in right hand, gun in left. Make them duck the sword and shoot them in the top of their head.
It time for a trigger group or new buffer and buffer spring. My guess is change the trigger group to a drop in.
Could be as simple as buffer tube one turn out reducing spring pressure. Even a new spring won't help.
A common problem is putting in hammer spring backwards. misfires, reduces trigger pull sounds good but it's not, reduces hammer striking ability, can lead to full auto scenario.
I would suggest garbage in locking lug area or junk in firing pin hole, but you said upper works on other lower. which rules those out.
One other is you need a heavier buffer because your getting bolt bounce.

Standard 3oz buffer and I plan on swapping the spring
I am not beyond making such an error, but doubt I would have done it over and over as many times as I swapped trigger groups around. I am leaning towards not being fully in battery at the moment.
If you lived closer. i have a lot of mil spec trigger group parts pilling up. i thing i even have buffer spring and buffer.
I was an AK guy for a long time then I got some more money and became a PTR91 type guy. I do have Ar15s and AR10s but still prefer the PTR especially after the trigger job.I see your problem, it is an AR.

It’s more than likely the buffer/spring.
