ISO AR Style Rifle

I'm looking for an AR Style rifle and possibly ammo to go with. Doesn't have to be the prettiest - just needs to shoot straight, reliably and not jam. This will be for home defense. My budget is around $600 if that's even possible. I may also be interested in a Mossberg style shotgun, too. Thank you for your time!
