Low cost Christmas gift ideas for those you typically don’t buy for….

Dr. Joe surprised me with a 1 pound loaf of awesomely good banana nut bread for Christmas. Glad I had these, don’t know the durability but they’re great for the price.

When I was a full-time employee at OK State University,,,
There wasn't a week went by that someone was celebrating something.

Birthday, promotion, tenure, anniversary, etc,,,
Buying even small gifts for my many friends soon became costly.

It dawned on me that most of my friends drank alcohol,,,
And a childhood memory came to my mind.

As kids my Aunt Lou always had Mason Jars for us kids to drink from,,,
I don't know why but we kids always got a kick out of them,,,
She had us paint them so we knew which was ours.

Anyways I had a great cheap gift idea that worked out well for many years,,,
I went to Wal Mart and bought a 12-pack of 12-ounce Mason Jars,,,
Inserted one of those 7.5 ounce cans of Coke (or any soda),,,
And tied an airline "Mini" of booze to it.

I used PowerPoint to make some labels for the cap,,,
And called them "Redneck High-Ball Glasses".

For you crafty types a small circle of scrap cloth,,,
Will cover the pressure lid and make them a bit more "homey".

Use any flavor of soft drink with an appropriate liquor,,,
Bacardi & Coke, Seagram's 7 & Seven-Up, Ginger Ale & Vodka,,,
Southern Comfort & Seven-Up, Spiced Rum & Dr. Pepper, or any other mixed drink you can think of.

The jar is under a buck,,,
The soda is about 55 cents,,,
And most mini's are 1-2 bucks.

Do the same thing with the smaller 6-ounce Mason Jar,,,
Tie a Mini of something best drank straight onto it,,,
Such as flavored whiskeys or flavored vodkas,,,
It becomes a Redneck Rocks Glass.

Just add two ice cubes and screw the lid back on it,,,
Swirl it in your hands for a minute or less.

When the inner temperature drops low enough,,,
The pressure seal gives a tiny "ping".

It's like a cute little "Ready to Drink" alarm.

By then the ice is about half melted,,,
The drink is perfectly chilled,,,
And perfectly "cut".

Given individually or as sets of two jars or more,,,
These are extremely cheap to produce,,,
And well appreciated by most folk.

This Christmas I'll probably give out 2-3 dozen of them,,,
Sometimes it's just one High-Ball or Rocks Glass,,,
Sometimes it's a small basket assortment.

Anyways,,,
Just thought I would toss this idea out,,,
It's a gift that has worked very nicely for me for many years now.

P.S. I firmly believe that Food and/or Booze make great gifts to adults,,,
Nothing says "I Appreciate You" like a good alcoholic beverage,,,
Or a Hormel Canned Ham with the dinner fixin's.

Nifty. I am getting ready to pull off a 20 lb PB to bag and freeze in quart ziplocks. Smoked 5 lb of cheese slices last week. Those go to family I can not think of anything they might want or need. Most are like me, already have too many useless do dads. Most everyone likes to eat. Your idea is a lot more personable than mine. Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas to everyone.
