I cut a .444 back to 16.5" several years before Marlin produced the shorter versions. Made a super brush gun and took several head of game. I marked the barrel with a tubing cutter and cut it with a metal chop saw. I then chucked it up in a lathe, trued the cut and recrowned the muzzle. Shot great, kicked hard and killed quickly.
