Google it and see what you come up with.

Popular thought seems to be that the kid had an accident with gas, and made up the story about the attack to cover for it. There are no witnesses, no suspects, and no arrests.

You haven't heard about it in the national media because it's a non-story.

"Popular thought"? Could well be a made-up cover story for the kid, but thankfully we just use popular thought to dismiss it. For the record, here is an article about the school the boy attends. Sounds like it is full of "popular thought", too:

You have the same amount of evidence about the situation as I do: none.

I was simply passing on one reason for why this story has not gained traction in the national media, as was the topic of this thread.

Many believe it to be an indicator of some massive racial bias in the media -- that black-on-white violence was intentionally being ignored.

I was presenting a different possibility, garnered secondhand from other internet discussions and news I've read, that suggests it was that the story had no traction as a news story, and that was the real reason it was not being reported in the national media.

Could be, and it's correct that neither of us has any evidence.

I just posted that to shed a little light on the possible atmosphere this kid is living in. May have been a made up incident, maybe not. But people are too quick to dismiss certain cases.

I was up in KC when this happened. They reported the incident and it seemed weird to me that this happened after school wen lots of kids would be beatin feet home or where ever, but no one saw anything? The story seemed fishy to me, but not impossible.

Yor article also correclty points out that this is Kansa City, MISSOURI and this was not a Kansas teen. It occured within the Kansas City MO public school district, which recently lost its accreditation and otherwise is an educational toilet. That environment is not irrelevant to either scenario (an attack, or a kid playing with fire unsupervised after school hours). Here's some writing on the matter:
