This was my dad's gun he said when he bought it in the 60s , it did the same thing. Anything I can do to make it more reliable? It is the model with the dogs on the receiver.
I know the model had some problems even then. I think my dad only paid 40 bucks for it back in the day.

It's possible. You won't know till you ask and the worst they can say is no. Besides, if a local gunsmith can't repair it, where can you get parts for a gun that old? And if it can't be fixed, you'll have a wall hanger with lots of history.
