My take on Massachusetts explosions

My propane tank has an over pressure release valve on it. Same for the propane tank for my BBQ grill. Both of my pressure cookers have over pressure safeties. Same for both of my air compressors. How come a couple of frigging cities don't have some sort of over pressure device on their gas lines?

I'm sure they do, but anything mechanical can fail. And sometimes backup systems fail too.

Tragedies can happen when both fail at once. :/

My first thought was to wonder if the over pressure was malicious. I would not be a bit surprised if investigators are looking in to that. Of course, stupidity is always most likely.

The FBI is involved for some reason, maybe the Russians?

That’s exactly what happened. Master gas pressure regulator and its backup both failed or someone opened the bypass by mistake.
