Norman Police Chief Humphrey. Does he support a ban on semi-automatic firearms?

At the hearing Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., introduced the police chiefs by state. That introduction led some Norman residents to question if Humphrey was there to support a gun ban. He was not.

“I had no idea this would occur,” Humphrey said. “I can see how someone watching and not knowing the background information would be concerned about her comments and introductions.

“The ironic part of this is that shortly following the introduction many of us had to leave to attend other activities,” he said. “I never met with her or any representatives from her office.”

Emphasis added. Sounds like Feinstein is living up to her usual not-quite-truthful standards.

He does not want to ban firearms of magazine sizes. He wants Oklahoma to take part in a National database for mentally disabled persons. We do not belong now so there is no way for a background check to discover mental illness. He supports the common (gun owner) view of the 2nd Amendment.

I'm waiting for a public statement from the City of Norman on this.

As a county, Cleveland County went overwhelmingly Mitt Romney, 63% vs. 37%, and Moore is just up the road and in the same county.

I don't have a breakdown as to what voting was like at city level, but Norman has grown so much with a much larger population not employed by OU than in the past, that it's not the socialist stronghold it used to be.

If this trip was paid for by "NOBLE", was he on leave status with the department?
