The government shutdown is being felt close to home for some locals. They say they're being forced out of private homes on Lake Mead because they sit on federal land.

Joyce Spencer is 77-years-old and her husband Ralph is 80. They've been spending most of their time in the family ice cream store since going home isn't an option.

The Spencers never expected to be forced out of their Lake Mead home, which they've owned since the 70s, but on Thursday, a park ranger said they had 24 hours to get out.

Hit this link and watch the video. The lady asked "Why?" The ranger replied because "we can't provide services". Sounds just like what went on after the Moore tornadoes when they wouldn't let some folks into their homes. This nanny state BS is getting old.

Some government employees are still being required to go to work, while others not - but they are still going to get paid retroactively. Why give them a paid vacation? Send all of their asses back to work. I have two family members currently bickering over it, as one has to work, the other not - but will be paid for it once this political theater plays out. It's stupid.

---OR---

If they are "non-essential" jobs, why in the hell do we need them in the first place? Because the government needs to "create" unnecessary jobs to keep the employment numbers from tanking (more)? There is light shining on some of this stuff to which most aren't paying any attention.

I think I'd be telling the park ranger that coming into my home to evict me without 60 days notice would be a VERY expensive proposition! Better bring a sack lunch!

I was planning to go fishing at Skiatook this coming weekend. I guess if the furlough is still on, I'll put in on Hudson at Lion's Club instead. :(

800,000 non-essential employees... sounds like a good place to start trimming the fat.

and let's not forget; Camp David Golf Course is OPEN!

It's is just another Babba ploy to inflict as much pain as possible and blame the "Publicans. How does the shutdown effect PRIVITIZED monuments, memorials, and parks other than the gubermint 'punishing' it's citizens for failure to bow down and comply?

Is it the voters fault? Definitely. Can WE recover and bring this country this back? It is looking more impossible everyday. Contact your Senator and Congressman and DEMAND representation and call for the immediate resignation of John Boehner.

Why would you call for Boehner's resignation and not Reid's as well???

They should ALL go.

Call for Boehner's because he CLAIMS to be opposing Babba / Reid but is working behind closed doors with them and then trying to sell his crap to the rest of Congress and us.

Mid-term elections are not soon enough, we need to demand a recall election on ALL Feds now and clean house. The problem is the libs, sheeple, who vote these idiots into office; or the dis-interested, who don't bother to vote at all. We are on the fast track to a socialist / Marxist / Babba dictatorship and we may not be able to stop it.

A planned immigration reform rally will take place on the National Mall on Tuesday even though the site is closed due to the government shutdown.

Organizers for the "Camino Americano: March for Immigration Reform" were spotted Monday setting up a stage and equipment on the National Mall for the rally which will take place on Tuesday.

A few scattered barriers around the park have signs informing visitors that the area is closed as a result of the government shutdown.

Susana Flores, a spokesperson for the rally, confirmed for the Washington Examiner that the Park Service will allow the event to take place under the group's rights granted by the First Amendment.
