Plinking loads

Bought a box powder coated bullets, .308 115 gr. Originally, they were going in .30 Carbine Ruger Blackhawk. A stiff load of 2400 and I have a back up for hogs.

After loading, I looked at some .30-06 with lighter bullets. Grandson wanted a .30-06 for Christmas. Tried to talk him into .25-06 or 7-08, but his mind was made up. He shot 1 round and hasn't touched it since.

Filled a bunch of brass with 16.8gr of Trail Boss and the 115gr PC bullet. It was like shooting a .22WMRF.

Will have grandson shoot some and get past the recoil memory. Then, load up some 120gr Nosler or use these lipstick bullets loaded to around 2600 fps.

I've not used Trail Boss powder, but those loads sure look fun.

Those bullets should work just fine in a .30-30 too. Try a lite load of whatever fast pistol powder you have: BullsEye, Red Dot, Clay's, whatever. I would start with about 5 grains.

They should make a dandy small game load. Rabbits beware !
Unfortunatel, Oklahoma proscribes using centerfire rifles for squirrel.

I acquired a box of .224 40gr FMJ boolets. Over 5.ogr Unique, they are around 2100 fps, in my Rem .223. Dead on at 50 yrds, with scope set up for 64gr deer loads @100 yrds. Sounds like a suppressed .223.

Man, that looks like fun.

If you have any Unique or Universal, try 10 grains of either in that .30-06, with any 150-180 grain bullet.
Jacketed or cast, either one shoots well.
It's not a deer load, but it's a very nice target or casual shooting load.
If you want to try it in your 30/30, go with 8 grains Unique or Universal.
