You can order dog tags from ranger joes and buy all the SF coins you want. You can ask for DA form 1059, service school evaluation report, for any schools he states he has attended. Of course those will also be on the DD214 or DD215 if it has been amended.

I served in the Navy from 83-93. There is absolutely no reason for him to not show you his DD-214 (unless he doesn't have one). It is perfectly normal for any business to ask to see a copy to verify service for an advertised discount. However if he is active duty he should have a green ID card and won't have a DD-214 unless he has re-enlisted at least 1x. I would ask for proof of service. ID Card , Green = Active duty, Red = retired. No ID then he is not active duty or retired and would have a DD-214 to verify dates of service and discharge status.

They don't use those cards anymore. They are white now. I think only dependents get the green ones now

Not being a know it all, but for some time now, the DoD has issued Common Access Cards that are generally white and have a computer chip impregnated in the lower portion. Prior to this, the ID cards were as you describe. Retired ID cards from recent years are a blueish grey color.

If spec ops around Tulsa I would think Air Force. I don't know of an Army spec op unit in this area. Navy or Marines either. Could be a survival instructor. From what you say he seems like a ricky recon fella. Just start a conversation that leads to asking to see military id. As for the DD214 there is nothing on it you cant find online, but if someone asked for mine I wouldn't show it.

This-

It's commonplace to include your DD214 along with your resume, when applying for a job after getting out.

My retiree ID card is blue. Have they changed?

Just follow him to the parking lot. Does he drive a KIA?

Really close. He drives a blue 1992 ford festiva.

He told me " special forces" 3 times when I asked him what branch.

He also said he has never shot on a range that had a trench with people down range. They had to go down range to check targets after every volley.

I meet him for 2 hours after I was told about him. He requested that I call him Sergeant "blank"

So in summary:

If he's claiming he is Active Duty, Guard, or Reserve, then he should be able to produce a CAC card. Period. No CAC = Full of crap.

If he is claiming Retiree status, then he should be able to produce a Retired ID card.

If he's claiming veteran status then he should be able to produce a DD214. There is NOTHING sensitive on a 214 except SSAN. He can black that out. If he is asking for/expecting a deal due to veteran status then he should pony up the 214 or walk.
