Thought about getting a membership there. Are members not allowed to bring visitors?

They can bring guests.
The rule is you can bring a guest 3-4 times a year. If they want to come more than that, they need to join.
The reason for the rule is to stop 1 guy joining. Then bringing a van load of buddies every week on 1 membership.
