I wonder if the guys in the video removed the valve out of the stem before trying to seat the bead.
12 ply is tough to seat. Buddy that has a super cab Chevy truck bought an overhead camper for it. He had 14 ply tires installed on his truck. I've never heard of 14 ply, but I've seen them after he bought them.Think the worst I've done is them old trailer house tires
Watched a few truck tires get mounted that way. Very interesting when you are a few feet away to say the least.
Same guy I watched do that and I used to change tires by hand and what I mean by that is spoon the tire off the rim and back on. Never did the ether trick myself but it's great to have a can if you pop a bead off when you are in the mid
dle of nowhere and can't put the spare on.
View attachment 56010 nobody ever used one of these?
the first tire machine I used was a old coats 10-10 that didn't have the thing to shoot the air under the tire.
More than a few I'll bet.Ditto. Have actually used a come-along on some of those to force the beads outward, but ether (or even gasoline) works pretty well once you figure out the right amount to use. It don't take much.
I always used matches, but you don't have to actually throw it into the tire. Just get close enough and the fumes will catch.
Always makes me laugh when I see movies where the bad guy's holding a lighter (lol, or a flare) just above a pool of gasoline. I wonder how many people have been injured thinking that's actually possible.
