Got a opportunity to purchase a original Ruger M77 30-06 with a Leopold scope. Was curious what you guys think the value of it is.
Thanks

Shoot it first red butt model 77 rifles have a well documented history of being inconsistent and most of it was Ruger's fault. At the time they didn't make their own barrels and acquired them from numerous sources , you might get a M77 that had a Douglas or Shilen Barrel as easily as you did one from a lower quality manufacturer .

I have owned more than a few of these rifles and where one will shoot sub MOA , the other was lucky to get 3 MOA . Food for thought on this and YMMV

With the Leopold scope, I could see the owner asking/wanting $1000-1200. For it. I’d offer $600, negotiate from there to whatever price point is acceptable to the buyer/seller. I owned a Ruger M77 chambered in .308 and a .243, twenty years ago. Was very happy with them, fine bolt actions, I think. Prices have gone up, availability has gone down. Have to make your mind up, how bad do you want/need this one?

Sorry can't help on a suggested price but have the same rifle just with a lesser scope. following along to see what you end up paying or approximate value. I don't shoot it so may sell - kicks like a mule with the short barrel.

This one was for sale on OSA almost exactly a year ago.
Slightly newer model (black recoil pad) in 270 Win. Depending on which Lepold scope is on your rifle might add some more value to it.

are they marked as to MFG (never heard that but interesting)

Nope they aren't and its a common topic of discussion . Futzing around with that angled front action screw and too much torque can be a source of heart ache for M77 Owners . The barrels and a few other quirks are some of the reasons Ruger totally redesigned the gun and released the M77MKII which has its own issues , and then the next redesign with the Hawkeye which has turned the rifle into a very accurate and not so fussy gun.
