Shoot an AR with no CH?

Some gas will escape out of the hole left by the absence of the charging handle. I wouldn't want my eye there,but that's the only thing that will happen

I agree. Not much gas will escape if any because the charging handle isn't a seal. The design of the receiver will hold the BCG in correct orientation.
