One of the biggest mistakes the right makes is assuming that leftist are stupid, when they are infact evil. The left wants crime to spiral out of control. It serves several functions and is a standard part of the communist revolutionary playbook. One is that crime is real time wealth redistribution harming small businesses and the middle class. Additionally crime backs the narrative of "us verses them" painting a romantic notion of the oppressed underclass that turns to crime due to the failures of capitalism. This also paints the narrative of being "oppressed" by the police who enforce "systematic racism" the communist seeks to remove all vestiges of the old system and replace it with his own. Finally crime actually gives power to the state and people become so tired of crime they are willing to have a rifle toting kommisar on every corner to stop it, and any other threats to the party in charge. When the criminals are no longer needed they will be dealt with swiftly, some of the more capable thugs may be given jobs working for the new "peoples police" or keeping order in the gulags.
They just hand them over the fence.
I shared that exact same News flash to a reporter on tweeter. She was freaking out about how it got past metal detectors. Lady see that great big long fence? Go toss anything you want over it.
I've been quoted a couple of times about the metal detectors sorry I was being sarcastic.
