Snakes are out!

After church this morning, I loaded up my elderly dad and Weimaraner and headed to the farm to mow and pick up limbs.
Jade my dog was sniffing around about 30yds away then started barking at something in the leaves under the pecan trees.
I walked over to investigate then she let out a yelp.
A pretty good size pygmy rattler got her on the paw.

Off to the emergency vet.
Lymph nodes were swelling and she was going into shock.
Antivenin ain't cheap..
I probably wouldn't have worried about it if it were a copperhead.
Maybe.

She's my velcro.
We're inseparable.

Sorry to hear about your dog. Hope the recovery is good.
We have had two dogs bit by copperheads. One recovered without antivenom but the other got the antivenom and later got seizures so bad we had to put him down.
I'll be thinking about your dog and it's recovery.

Poor pup. Haven’t seen any here yet but the dillos, turtles and frogs are starting to be active so I imagine they’re around. We have a tree line/drainage area behind our house and last year the neighbors German Shepard got hit by a Copperhead (we’re thinking) and it dang bear kilt him. He’s better now but that was one nasty wound.

Hope your dog makes a quick recovery. Weims are great dogs, we had one for 14 years. I still miss him.

Sorry for your trouble. Just yesterday I shot at a cottonmouth swimming across the pond towards me and my dog. Missed of course, and didn't get a 2nd try, as he disappeared.

It’s definitely that time of year again. Hope your pup gets healed up with no issues. I’ve had two dogs bitten by diamondbacks. The wounds looked pretty nasty, but they both fully recovered.

There's only two things in this world that I'm afraid of: heights and snakes. I don't trust any land critter that moves without legs.

So sorry about your little buddy. I hope his recovery is swift and certain.
