Back in the 60's my Mom, who was an antique dealer,,,
Placed two whimsically painted fire hydrants,,,
As "guards" to our front porch.

OK City fire marshals saw them and issued a citation,,,
Apparently it was against some city ordinance,,,
To have inoperable hydrants in plain view.

The thinking was that it could fool firefighters,,,
Into trying to hook up to them.

That $50.00 fine was a big amount back then,,,
Mom moved them to the back porch.

A few years back, the 4 corners of the schools, had some sad looking, fire hydrants. The 1st grad teachers had their students paint them, with permission from the Principal.

Fire Captain raised Cain about it. Newspaper wrote a front page story. City Council meeting was packed with protesters.

Hydrants remained painted as the kids had done.
