People forget that the average college educated person in Texas didn't even go to UT. There are a lot of teams down there and lots of people who hate the Longhorns almost as much as you do. When the UT folk get away from Austin they find themselves outnumbered almost everywhere. As a result, most people down there tend to be a little less brain-addled about this kind of stuff than some people we know.
DFW is OU's biggest out-of-state recruiting area for students. There are lots of OU alumni down there.
