This is actually the first time that the majority of people in Congress have a net worth of $1M or more. Democrats have a median net worth of $1.04M, and Republicans have a median net worth of $1M. In the House, it's Democrats $929,000 and Republicans $884,000 for an overall median of $896,000. In the Senate, it's Democrats $1.7M and Republicans $2.9M for an overall median of $2.7M. Democrats only fell in the Senate because John Kerry took his $248M to the executive branch and Frank Lautenberg's $87.5M went to his estate.

Twenty-four have a negative net worth - 14 Republicans and 10 Democrats - all in the House. The House member with the least net worth is David Valadao (R-CA) at -$12.1M. The Senator with the least net worth is Mark Pryor (D-AR) at $8,500.
