What is +P

My guns are all 9mm so far. I see references to +P ammo and have no clue what it means. Can someone explain it simply?

+p is a hotter load than standard pressure 9mm

there is also +p+

How is it made hotter? Just more powder? Do people reload their own +P and +P+ rounds? Is it more accurate?

It just has a touch more powder to give a higher pressure. And generally they are no more accurate, they just have more velocity/energy than the normal loading.

Sometimes you have to trade a little accuracy for velocity, sometimes you don't

Just make sure your weapon can handle the +P or the +P+. Call or email the manufacturer of your weapon and make them confirm it can take the pressures. Save the email.

+P+ is 9mm's attempt to act like a .45.

They do add a little more respect for the round.
In a pizzing contest you want to be a +P+.
