should clarify ... my EDC 340PD would be std revolver when I'm also packing a deer rifle.
1911 Gold Cup .45 would be my first choice if revolver would be a primary.
no comparison in accuracy between the two. both are dead reliable.

Smith 686-1 with a 4" barrel and gold dots. Long or short trip it's always a good idea to bring a couple speed loaders. Stainless steel and .357 magnum are perfectly paired for the outdoors. Especially in the lower 48.

What is your woods/hunting/back-up outdoor revolver or pistol? Right now mine is a 3" S&W 66 Comp F or a 5" S&W Model 27. I have been thinking of moving up in caliber/power but really don't know if it is needed in Oklahoma. What is the chance I will run into a black bear, a mountain lion, or a big foot? I have seen and dropped some hogs, seen and dropped some dogs, and even saw a bobcat but I know the .357 mag with a nice 158 gr JSP will work on them.

What say you, what do you carry, and experiences with your revolver or pistol.

Calibers I am entertaining:
10mm
.44 Mag
.45Colt
:thumb:

It depends on the activity, but usually a 44 mag or 45 ACP, 3" to 6".
357 is also a good choice; years ago I carried one.
