I am going to be setting up a trust to try and beat off all the Gun haters, as I am afraid this will be what they consider a loophole that needs closing. I am trying to decide what gun to do first and looking for ideas. I only have a few guns by I am looking to either do my 22lr plinker or my 556 first. Has anyone just gotten a really good 556 and used it on the 22lr? I have heard several places that the 556 on a 22lr is not as good as a purpose built 22lr can. Sure would be nice though to buy a nicer 556 can and use on both. Any thoughts from you gun gurus?

My first was a silencerco sparrow, my second was the silencerco osprey in 45. My sparrow has seen the most use. i would go with a dedicated 22lr can first, and then get a rifle supressor later. A 5.56 can will supress the 22lr just fine, but remember 22lr is very dirty. I mean very dirty, i was amazed when i first took my sparrow apart, and this is why you dont want to use 22lr on a 5.56 can, unless the 5.56 can is user servicable.

Good tip. Yeah I noticed some were serviceable and some were not. I was looking at gemtech and surefire. I would like a serviceable can regardless just to keep it clean and extend the life on it.

Never shoot .22LR in a sealed 5.56 can. A .22LR can will get more use than almost all other calibers combined. It's definitely where I would start again.

I also think the .22 can is the best choice for a first can unless big game hunting is your priority. It is much cheaper than other cans plus and it will almost guaranteed that you will be happy with the sound reduction.

I would never shoot a .22lr out of anything but a .22 can. Serviceable or not, it just doesn't make much sense. a 556 can would be heavy and big.
