I wont vote for her. I am not big into politics but she truly sucks. She had no public education experience. She totally cleaned out the dept of Education and replaced them with her people who have no clue.
She ran off a close personal friend who was a special education teacher. She had worked her way up. She left for Arizona. She was great, kind, smart. She truly loved her job and was good at it. Those people are hard to replace.

I'll read the link. My comment was general in content that if you can't read you can't be an educated person. Reading is the gateway to knowledge.

Anything that can be done to cause these kids to get motivated to read is good for me.

And therein lies the rub. Teachers can't motivate some kids without having both the "carrot and the stick". When the teachers cannot even give failing grades to a student who refuses to study, or in some cases spends all their time disrupting the classroom, what is the answer? Drive off the good teachers by imposing "theoretical" teaching methods that are stupid, and telling the teaches to "make school fun?"

I get high school graduates coming into junior college who can't read or do arithmetic and have never gotten an "F" in their life until they take a pass/fail remedial class in JC. Some kids need to be shown early that you have to study to pass, you know, like the old fashioned way my elementary teachers did it. Many of these kids would do much better in school if they came home with a failing report card in elementary school instead of having to wait until they are 18 to learn work brings success, and you CAN fail by doing nothing. IMHO, administrative policies driven by social promotion and "C for showing up" are the main problem.

My wife is a teacher. Everyone of hee coworkers are singing the small tune. Vote for hoffmeister in the primary to get Baresi out. In the general election there is a Democrat, I forget his name, that needs some serious thoughts. Supposedly a good track record.

I wonder if that's John Cox. I saw an ad for him this morning, and I liked it for one primary reason--it talked about him and his experience, and didn't sling any mud at (or even mention) anyone else.

Actually, it's $1.2M this year, and $1.9M between this year and last year.

For a job where she will be paid a grand total of $496K over four years.

To me, that throws up red flags. Maybe someone can get Prater to open an inquiry there, too.

You clearly have better leads and more time than I. :thumb:

IMO they shouldn't be able to loan themselves money for a political campaign. If they just want to spend it outright on their campaign, that's fine, but they loan it and charge back exorbitant interest and most donors are never the wiser. And I'm sure there are a few odd donors that are if you get my drift...

I'm can't vote in the primary, but has anyone thought about Brian Kelly?

I haven't heard/read anything about him recently, but I studied all three GOP candidates' websites a month or so ago looking for positions on Common Core. Barresi was pro (but quietly pro), Hoffmeister was strongly against and Kelly was silent on the topic. During the time of the most heated public conversation on the state's education direction, Kelly didn't seem to take a position. So, for right or for wrong, I wrote him off.

I agree.

If you are not sure, contact a teacher, and ask who they feel you should not vote for. Older teachers who have been working under our current superintendent, and several others will know what works and what does not. The media as we all know is not truthful when it comes to things that are not in their best interest.

I hate to say this, but it seems like a Democrat will best serve education as a leader. Look what our former Governor Brad Henry did for education, it was a lot more than any other governor in Oklahoma history, he was a Democrat.
