I'm going to take a stab at this one. The one in the closet is the items you need to defend your home. The one in the garage is your bugout bag. Each would contain guns, ammo, flashlights, knives, first aid kits, radios. Bugout would have that and more like , food, water, tent, sleeping bags, meds you need, change of clothes etc.
Well I know the box in my closet is full of porn. And come to think about it the box in the garage is full of old porn. Ironicly though the box next to my toilet is full of guns and ammo.

immediate gear belongs in your BOB backpack. All else belongs cached at or near your BOL. All it takes to stop traffic is some 1" sticks and 3" nails. Survival gear, 4 seasons, runs 14 lbs. 6 lbs of water, 2 lbs of rations, 13 lbs of guns and ammo, 1 lb of NVD goggle and solar charger for same, 5 lbs of concealable armor, to include 18 layer Kevlar boxer shorts.
Maybe one is short term and the other is long term. Short term box has food, camping, safety, medical, etc stuff. Long term box is for growing and game getting (seeds, reference books, traps, snares, etc.).
the snares, etc, better be buried at your BOL. Dont count upon a 4 wheeled vehicle for your bugout. All it takes to stop all traffic is some 1" sticks and 3" nails. Split the sticks down the middle, so they won't roll, then drive the nails thru them and cover an area 50 ft long and full width of the road, at a tight spot, and a turn, with shade, so nobody sees them until it's too late. They wont go far on 4 flat tires. They shoot up the cars, take the stuff. Piled up vehicles, pretty soon a tank can't get thru them.
