I understand and share the frustration of watching the culture of welfare/ state/ fed assistance abuse in our state, but not sure that this is going to be an effective strategy to save money. I'll be curious on how the gaming industry approaches this bill- Probably quietly, and with back door incentives to lawmakers. Don't doubt for an instant, that the industry isn't going to let any old Senator "Take" money from them.

Maybe we should ban tobacco, alcohol and trans fat food sales to the welfare recipients as well. That, and monthly drug/tobacco tests ought to keep 'em in line.... Maybe.

My thoughts concur.

So, I guess its ok if someone gets welfare from the people (state) so they can run down to the casino and spend it?? I guess it's not any different than them using EBT to support their drug habits.

I have an idea, get rid of welfare all together, that solves the problem!

Introduced by Rep. Todd Russ.

This is just plain wrong. It just goes to show that Republicans want to control your life.

There is more wasteful spending in government agencies than compared to the amount of ghettos in casinos. I see it as a way of them passing the blame of our gov's financial problem to the people. We need more bills regulating the people in office and less gov agencies. That is just a start to what we need.

I love watching the poor and homeless in Vegas, especially in the downtown/Fremont area. I'll be playing "single" deck..3:2, blqckjack early in the morning. The homelss guy will beg for a few hours and walk right in the casino and start to "game".

My wife made a comment one time about that. I told her, what does he have to lose...a house, wife and family? If he hits it big...good for him. If he doesn't, just another day.

As for welfare being used to gamble/game...I really don't care how they spend their money...I know, don't flame me...tax payer money.

Trust me, the retired folks do it on their pensions and retirement. If I had a nickel for every time (when I was in the restroom) I heard someone crying about spending all the rent, payments, grocery money...I'd be a millionaire. Not just the poor gamble their NEEDED money away.

As for legislation ruling our lives. .it's not the first time and its not the last.

Look at what happened to the three wheeler atv, tobacco, popbottle rockets, streetsweeper shotguns (I'm waiting for the Saiga shotgun to be regulated..hell, it's 5x faster then the old streesweeper and the mags and drums hold more rounds)..where do I stop?

What gets me is those facial recognition cameras the casinos use. So what if my wife was asked by a manager and security to leave because she was winning at blackjack. How dare they offer double and single deck, ask her to leave and ban her for 6 months...then enforce it when she enters their establishment only to have dinner..dinner I say...two months later, the nerve!!! Then they share that info with other casinos...how rude!!! :wink2:

 I must have been doing something wrong because when I was on welfare I didn't have money to do anything but pay my bills and keep my kids fed ... And barely enough to do that most months. God help me if I had an unexpected expense (like a sick kid that needed to go to the doctor) or a car expense ... Or if my mom "borrowed" my car and brought it back to me on empty, which she did quite frequently until I finally just started leaving it on empty and putting $3 in it whenever I needed to go somewhere ...

And even after I got off welfare and was among the working poor, I STILL didn't have enough money to play around. Because I was too "rich" for assistance but still not making enough money to cover basic expenses like daycare, I worked two and three jobs at a time ... Of course, if I hadn't been paying my mom to babysit the kids when I worked that night job it might have helped but ... hey ... Never let it be said my mom ever let me take advantage of her in any way ... :rolleyes2

I knew plenty of women (and a few families) who were like me. Not everyone who is on "the dole" is scamming the system ... Would you guys throw the baby out with the bathwater?
