I would bet it's the breed line then. If they came from an individual they very well might not be "pure" breed. Now mine don't have the greatest personality, certainly not like my reds, but they do lay eggs like crazy. I've got one red that can here me get into the scratch bin 100 yards away. You would think a coyote was after her the way she runs back to the coop
