del-ton has a complete rifle kit minus the lower receiver for $475. I did a lot of reading before ordering my first AR and everything I could find about del-ton is pretty good. It will be A three or four month wait there and a lot of other places also.
Both of mine were done on a budget. One is a 20" Model 1 kit on a Olympic receiver, the other is a DPMS lower with a 16" lightweight Delton upper. Neither would impress the corksniffers on arfcom but both were cheap and they do everything I ask of them. They function with any ammo I've tried.
At some point I may end up with a Colt or a LMT or a Sabre but at the moment both the guns I have are satisfactory.

Rock River has a complete rifle kit for $655 lpk included. All you need is a stripped lower.
