I have killed/recovered about 20 hogs that I shot with a 223 using expanding bullets. All but two of them dropped in their tracks from being shot forward of the front shoulder in the center mass of the neck and a few were head shots. The other two I recovered were behind the shoulder shots, one was a big sow that was heart shot and the other a 50 pounder that took a 55 gr bst and dropped. I have shot another half dozen behind the shoulder with a 223 and they ran off never to be found. I have killed many more with a 308 dia bullet from either a 308win or a 30-06, those pigs either drop upon impact or run a very short distance.
