I like the movie because Robert Duval portrayed Gus exactly as I imagined him in the book. One of my all time favorites. You may be disappointed in the sequels but the novel is outstanding.

+2. I read the book first so I was pumped when the mini series came out. Thought they did a fantastic job in casting all around, Gus, Call, Deets, hell all of 'em. Still my favorite western.

Lonesome Dove, Open Range and Broken Trail are my three favorites and they all have Duvall. Cinematographic refuge where things are the way they ought to be compared with this crazy world we have now.....

Lonesome Dove is definintely the best TV mini-series ever made, period. Return To Lonesome Dove has nothing to do with the books, but is okay(I think the movie offended Larry McMurtry). The other mini-series(which are based on the books) are much better: Streets of Laredo, Dead Man's Walk, & Comanche Moon.
