Does anyone have any recomendatations for a good M1903 / M1917 Military Surplus (CMP) Bolt Action gunsmith in the central part of Oklahoma? I hope to get one or the other in the current CMP mail in order ("Lottery"...lol) offerings! If I do get one I will need someone to go over it and make sure it is safe to fire!
Thanks

Most of those 1093's being sold by the CMP nowadays are veterans organization returns, so they're probably going to be a dicey proposition. If I were looking for a 1903, I'd keep an eye on the classifieds in the CMP forum and elsewhere for a nice, high-numbered 03A3 that'd probably be a lot safer to shoot.

the ones currently listed on their website are junk.
put another $100 or $200 with that price and you can find a nice one local.
watch OSA classifieds there have been some nice ones recently.
centerfire systems has some rebuilt with new stocks and barrels. a little pricey though.
I picked up a near mint 1917 for $500 a few months back from a guy who bought it back in the '60's.
watch for local gun auctions. theres alot of that stuff coming available if your willing to pay market price.
a lot of guys bad-mouth the auctions mainly cause they want a $600 gun for $200.
