I'm finally taking my carry class in a few weeks but none of my handguns right now would be practical to carry. Any suggestions? I'm torn between a small revolver or may a NAA guardian

I have found that weight makes easier carry than size. I like the S&W 340PD and the Glocks. Kahr also makes a good carry gun.

Remember having the gun go bang every time is the most important thing.

Then of course there are those who like the Star Wars mega blasters as a minimum for carry. :-)

Mark

PS: You will need a good holster and belt also.

as mentioned, a gun that you carry is the gun you should get. People will tell oyu only a glock, only a xd, only a sw j frame, etc. while all good choices, the big deal is just to just carry! You would be surprised that with a little work, nearly any handgun can be concealed.

Before you go to the conceal carry class, go to a decent gun range and rent some guns you think you might like to carry.

You HAVE to be comfortable with your carry weapon or you won't practice with it and you won't be proficient enough with it if it ever needs to be used to defend your life or the lives of your loved ones.

Glock, Sig Sauer, S&W, Springfield, CZ, FNH and Kahr make awesome weapons ideal for conceal carry. They make them in a wide var

in my opinion i do not like big, heavy guns to carry. the weight is burdensome, hard to cover up, not comfortable with seatbelts, etc.

i carry a S&W 642 in my front pocket and actually forget about it but i always have it with me.

i have tried bigger guns, 4" service models, and they get in my way.

i also like single stack guns for summer time carry. Of course, in the winter, you can carry up anything.

Over the years, many instructors, gun toters, cops, grunts and enthusiasts of all walks of life have been giving advice on what gun is best for concealed carry.

God bless good ol' boys like the late Col. Jeff Cooper (USMC, ret.) as well as fellers like Clint Smith, Rob Leatham, Doug Koenig and a host of others who more or less make their living shooting and concealing firearms.

You'll hear things like "a gun should be comforting before it is comfortable" and one of my favorites, "a concealed carry gun should be shaped like a bar of soap."

The best advice I can give is what was told to me many a year ago, but I was just recently reminded of by a very dear friend of mine, my instructor, Paul Abel, the guy who taught me everything I know.

He said...

"You see all these guys who have a duty gun, an off duty gun, a hideout gun, a weekend gun, blah, blah, blah. What a guy needs to do is get ONE gun. Learn it frontwards and backwards, inside and out. Learn how to take it apart. COMPLETELY apart. Down to all 87 pieces and put it back together. Do this until it becomes second nature.

"After you can COMPLETELY assemble/disassemble the damned thing in the dark with your eyes closed, then take it to the range. I don't consider a carry gun worthy to be a carry gun untill you have close to a thousand rounds thru it. After you shoot it so much, you are sick and :censored:ING tired of shooting...shoot it some more. Then and only then, is it good enough to be considered a TRUSTWORTHY carry gun."

I agree with Glock em Down. You must practice alot with your firearm. I have just recently got my CCL and like you did a lot of research on carry weapons. The main points I have picked up are:
1. You must know you firearm. You don't want to find out that the Federal P+ ammo you are shooting will jam in your pistol when you are in a gun fight.
2. You will never carry a gun that has issues, such as too heavy, bulkly, long, etc.
3. Some individuals can carry a full size 1911 with no issues, but not everyone. So be carefull from advice that suggest that you can carry anything with the right system.
4. There are those that think that what they carry is the only thing worth a damn. Don't buy in the brand blindness as mentioned above find a place where you can rent what you think you may want to carry and shoot them.
5. A good holster and belt is a must. If you have buddies that carry see if you can use theirs for testing (I don't so I have bought a holster that I will not use LOL).
Before I got my CCL I bought a pistol, which I tried out before I bought it and latter discovered that I could not shoot it like I wished. I thought that I should get something else, but a memeber on this forumn suggested that I practice more. I am glad that I did, now I shoot much better it was not the gun but me! Just do your reseach, find something you like, practice, practice more, and never look back or give up if you think you may have picked the wrong gun.

I am definetely doing my research. My only handgun is a S&W Sigma 40, I like it alot but I have tried it on with a IWB holster and don't think it will be comfortable enough to carry for me. I love the gun, some may call it cheap but it shoots great and I like it so thats all that matters. I have looked into the S&W bodyguard 380, i'm not sure if it is out yet but I think I will definetely look into it. Does anyone know if its out yet or heard anything about it?
