Now I'm not ragging on anyone,,,
Or even grimacing about this thread's topic.

It's just that in the past 18 or so years in various forums,,,
I've read and posted on this topic,,,
So very many times.

As I perused the individual responses,,,
I was musing on how many different threads that might be.

I would easily guess it may be 50 or more threads.

Usually I just enjoy reading all the same old arguments,,,
Presented in completely different words,,,
But I'm enjoying an adult beverage,,,
And am feeling a need to orate.

So here are my thoughts on "1911 vs revolver".

I'm into simplicity of function,,,
Ease of operation and reliability are my goals.

My personal preference,,,
And that's all it is, just an individual choice,,,
Is a DA/SA revolver or semi-auto with exposed hammer.

I like to be able to un-cock the handgun,,,
While having a round in the chamber.

A DA revolver is the original Point-n-Click Interface,,,
Just draw the pistol and aim,,,
Pull the trigger,,,
Just 6 times.

Then there is the revolver's viable younger sibling,,,
A DA semi-automatic pistol.

Safety off while drawing the handgun,,,
Aim and pull the trigger,,,
As many as 16 times.

DA revolver vs. DA semi boils down to a question of capacity,,,
Do you think 6 rounds will be enough,,,
Or do you want lots more?

But this thread is about "revolver vs. 1911",,,
Not revolver vs. semi-auto.

Okay,,,
Back on topic.

Two handguns I would never select to carry,,,
Are a single-action revolver,,,
Or a single-action semi.

Cock the hammer while drawing the handgun,,,
Aim and pull the trigger.

It's the same amount of steps,,,
I just don't want to thumb a hammer under pressure.

Thumbing the safety seems much more viable to me.

I will mention carrying the 1911 cocked and locked,,,
Just so you who like this method of carry,,,
Won't think I'm ignoring you.

I believe that you are bat-poop crazy,,,
But I'm not ignoring you.

I hesitate to even conceive of carrying a SA revolver cocked,,,
Enough said on that topic.

So to wrap up this exposition,,,
Here's my conclusion.

I would much rather carry an 8-shot DA revolver chambered in .32 Magnum,,,
Than an 8+1 round 1911 in .45 ACP.

If I could only have a six-shooter then a S&W in .38 Special,,,

Just my humble opinion,,,
Your mileage may vary.

Why would you not carry a 1911 condition one?

Why would you not carry a 1911 condition one?

The smart-alec side of me wants to say,,,
Because, I'm not bat-poop crazy.

But seriously,,,
The rational Human Being side of me says,,,
Because I could never convince myself that it's safe.

It's that personal preference/individual choice thing.

I'm not trying to change anyone's mind about this,,,
I'm just stating my own preferences,,,
And a bit of why I have them

What makes it not safe? Are the 2 safeties not sufficient somehow?

Again,,,
I was just stating my preferences,,,
Not trying to argue or change anyone's mind.

The two safeties are probably "sufficient" in actuality.

I can't and could never convince myself,,,
That a cocked hammer over a chambered round is safe.

Not enough to carry it that way.
